High End H-alpha Telescope vs Garage Sale White Light Telescope

In the spirit of the Sidewalk Universe Guy’s forum “Tessy’s  & Fuji’s Toy Telescope”, a joint solar observe was undertaken by $2500 60mm Coronado Solar max  and a $5.00 60mm Bushnell “Sky Rover 1” in the backyard of the Drive-By astronomer.

The test: Which would provide the most fun and enjoyment?

Following two days of stormy single digit weather, WNY was treated to a beautiful sunny 40+ degree day. The scopes thought they would play together in the “Stupid Little Astro-Pod” (coined by the Sidewalk Universe Guy in Sparks, NV). As you can see there was plenty of room in the spacious observing pod for both scopes as well as Huckleberry and new found friend Angelica.

Results: Tie.

  1. Excellent photos Mike.... I like Huckleberry's new friend...she has a sensible astro hat... but those rollerblades are an accident waiting to happen :0))

I have a friend called "Mr Fox" who visits the observatory now and again .. I'll put a picture of him on FaceBook soon...

I noticed the solar filter ...I can't believe that many Sols ago I used to sometimes look through one of those.... CRAZY..!!!!

I often use my 40mm refractor... it cost £5 and gives hours of entertainment....

When I look at Albireo or the Moon through the 40mm it's like being a kid again...as if I'm seeing the night sky through a telescope for the first time...

    Mark.... :0)
