High End H-alpha Telescope vs Garage Sale White Light Telescope

In the spirit of the Sidewalk Universe Guy’s forum “Tessy’s  & Fuji’s Toy Telescope”, a joint solar observe was undertaken by $2500 60mm Coronado Solar max  and a $5.00 60mm Bushnell “Sky Rover 1” in the backyard of the Drive-By astronomer.

The test: Which would provide the most fun and enjoyment?

Following two days of stormy single digit weather, WNY was treated to a beautiful sunny 40+ degree day. The scopes thought they would play together in the “Stupid Little Astro-Pod” (coined by the Sidewalk Universe Guy in Sparks, NV). As you can see there was plenty of room in the spacious observing pod for both scopes as well as Huckleberry and new found friend Angelica.

Results: Tie.

Sol and Solitude

Another backwoods astronomy adventure... Sun and Solitude
This time down to the McCarthy Hill State Forest land with the H-alpha Solar scope in tow. I was only able to observe the sun for about 10 minutes but the setting was quite nice. an approximately 2 1/2 hour hike ensued shortly after followed by a relaxing astronomy read around a small campfire. I could not muster up any "Huckleberry Friends" (www.facebook.com/pages/My-Huckleberry-Friends/383311171748559) to accompany me for the day and I did not encounter any other human throughout the day.
